Dance Division Policies
- Registration and tuition payments: Registration is completed by returning the non-refundable registration fee with completed form to the studio prior to three days before the term begins. Enrollment in a class is confirmed upon receipt of the first tuition payment. Students will not be allowed to participate in a class until tuition has been paid. Late fees are applied to outstanding balances on tuition and recital accounts on the 15th day of each month. There is a $15 fee charged for returned checks. If returned check delays coverage of account balance by the due date, a late fee will apply as well.
- Late enrollment: Tuition is not prorated for late enrollment. Students accepted in transfer into existing classes after January 1 will be responsible for one half of the annual tuition and registration fee before beginning classes. Final recital fees are due by Feb 1.
- Change in enrollment schedule: Students who change their enrollment by adding or dropping a study from their schedule must submit in writing a request to drop or add classes. The director will determine if the change is feasible and if any more/less tuition is due. Receptionists and instructors do not have the authority to validate enrollment changes.
- Withdrawal from enrollment: As classes are planned for certain numbers of participants, space in class is created and reserved especially for you at registration. The syllabus of instruction is designed for 33 weeks of attendance and stable class dynamic. It is therefore understood upon registration that you intend to complete the full 33 weeks of instruction. If a student must withdraw before the end of the 33-week course, the person responsible for that student's participation must notify the office of Masonboro Arts in writing 30 days in advance of anticipated withdrawal. Student/Parent(s) will be responsible for tuition coverage equalling four weeks of classes beyond date of receipt of written notice, and the student may continue classes through the end of the notice period. A refund of tuition overage or bill for the amount due will be issued. If no written notice is received, or when a student continues absent for an extended time, the director will determine that that student has withdrawn and student/parent will be responsible for 50% of the trimester tuition beyond the date determined by the director to be the withdrawal date.
- Inclement weather: Please call the studio for status of classes in the event weather contingency. We do not necessarily follow public school procedure.
- Attendance: In the Masonboro Arts system of dance training, progress builds upon the instruction given in each meeting and depends on the continuity of the entire group, therefore consistent attendance is mandatory. If your child will be unable to attend a class due to illness, please phone the studio as soon as possible (do not send word with friends or carpool-mates) so the instructor can be informed and plan accordingly. There are no tuition adjustments for absences, but students may be able to make up missed classes in a comparable class. Make up lessons must be prearranged and satisfied within the month of the absence. No make-ups allowed after April 1.
- Reports of Progress: Parents will receive progress reports on their children in April and will have opportunities to discuss any aspect of their child's advancement with the instructors by appointment.
- Performance/Recital Fee: Recital fees cover costumes as well as other costs of participating. This fee is collected in the first half of the year to ensure timely costume delivery and placement provisions for each dancer.
- Student Activities: Students have opportunities to travel with their groups to workshops, master classes, competitions, and other events. Direct contact is facilitated between advanced interested students and dance directors for guidance towards dance majors and other artistic and educational careers.
Non-profit performance groups, the Masonboro Repertory Ballet, the apprentice division of the ballet company, and the Masonboro Stars hip hop dancers, are open to interested students by audition. The companies also solicit membership to supporters who wish to contribute in other ways to the ultimate mission of the company, i.e. to bring beauty of dance to the community and to provide education to those who desire a complete dance experience in their youth. Company members enjoy the process of bringing a piece of choreography to full production from start to finish. The hip hop company provides an alternative to the classical for interested dancers. Participation in arts performances and the preparation thereof provides positive, life-changing experiences which open doors to new opportunities for personal growth and education in many disciplines. It is our job to facilitate interest in these endeavors!
- Questions about your account: Accounting questions are welcome and we will get you an answer if you allow us a business day to check for balances or research account history. Account adjustments require 30 days to process.
