Dance Division Studio Rules and Regulations

  1. Female Dress Requirements:
Creative Movement, Ballet and Tap Levels A, B, C:  Solid black leotard (without inscriptions, appliqués, or attachments, but any neckline style or sleeve length), ballet pink dance tights OR ankle socks, pink ballet shoes, and black tap shoes (A,B,C only; no tap for creative movement).
Ballet Levels I, II, III, and Tap Levels I and II:  Solid black leotard (without inscriptions, appliqués, or attachments, but any neckline style or sleeve length), ballet pink dance tights, pink ballet shoes, black tap tyettes. Hair must be affixed off the neck and shoulders. Beginner pointe students need Capezio Pavlova.
Ballet Levels IV, V, VI:  Optional solid colored leotard, pink tights with pink ballet shoes. Hair in a bun.
Tap Level III:  Black leotard, ballet pink tights, tan heeled tap shoes.
Jazz I, II:  Black leotard, ballet pink tights, optional black jazz pants, tan jazz shoes (slip-on jazz boot is most popular). Classes performing musical theater numbers will also need tan character shoes in second semester.
Hip Hop III, IV:  Black leotard, tan tights, black jazz or hip hop pants, black hip hop boot.
All Level VII and Adults:  Optional dance attire and shoes.
Celtic character:  Black leotard, pink or black tights, black oxford tap shoes and black ballet or jazz shoes.
Clogging:  Optional comfortable clothing; no long pants (below the ankle).

Leotards and tights are fashioned to be worn without underwear which causes uncomfortable bulkiness. Shorts and T-shirts are not allowed in any class except clogging. Dance shoes with "growing room" may be an impediment to technique and a safety hazard. The instructor should fit shoes properly before they are worn or elastics or ribbons sewn on. Hair must be neatly fixed away from the face. Buns with hairnets are most desirable. Please clearly mark names in all dance wear. Males in youth classes should check with instructors for dress requirements.

  2. Arrival/departure times:  Students should not arrive more than 10 minutes early and should be picked up promptly. Our lobby is a public place and the safety of the children can only be guaranteed when their parents or responsible parties are supervising them. Staff members must remain free to conduct business by answering the phone and helping inquisitors at the desk, and are instructed to decline requests to watch your children. Latecomers must warm up adequately before proceeding with class. Please be considerate of the classes or lessons in session when entering or leaving the building. When class is over, students must vacate the dance floor and meet their parents in the lobby.

  3. Classroom protocol:  Classes proceed without interruptions, and young students should be reminded to use the bathroom beforehand. Students are to remain in designated areas at all times, away from mirrors, sound equipment, and personal property of the teachers. Students may not play or drum on the pianos or use them to shelve personal belongings.

  4. Food/drinks:  No food, drinks, or gum allowed in the building. Exceptions will be made for special occasions planned in advance. Water in spillproof bottles may be stored in dance bags.

  5. Rules of Conduct:  Proper attention and behavior is expected of students at all times. Running and horseplay is not condoned. A quiet, focused environment is necessary for objectives to be met. Students may not enter the dance room before class or execute unsupervised dance or gymnastic moves, and must leave the dance floor when class ends.

  6. Telephones:  Masonboro Arts does not have telephones for public use. Facility personnel may assist a student with an emergency phone call.

  7. Outside the studio:  Please help us respect our merchant neighbors by entering and exiting your dance classes in proper attire and shoes. Do not wear dance shoes outside.

  8. Insurance:  Health and accident insurance coverage by families of students is a must for participation in any of the Masonboro Arts programs. Costs due to injuries are the responsibility of each individual participant.

  9. Observing classes:  The degree of attention required of students in dance class is impossible to achieve with others peering in. Drop-in visitors may not observe classes except by prearranging one visit (students under age 18 must bring parent) in anticipation of registration if necessary.

  10. Photographs and videotaping:  Any recording of our classes or recital by video, audio, or camera equipment is strictly prohibited. Our annual recitals are videotaped by the studio and copies are made available to our students for a small fee. Other appearances by Masonboro Arts performers will be subject to the recording policies of the organization hosting the event. A photo release allowing us to publish you/r child's photo in materials promoting the studio is attached to your registration form. You are not required to sign this and should not do so if you do not wish your child to be photographed.
